Mr. Jason Sheedy

Mr. Sheedy is entering his third year as principal of Iwakuni Intermediate School, bringing 26 years of experience in education and instructional leadership within DoDEA-Pacific. Since arriving at IWIS, he has focused on building a strong, collaborative school culture centered on academic excellence, student engagement, and continuous improvement.

Mr. Sheedy’s journey in education began in 2001 in the DoWEA Pacific Japan District, where he taught at John O. Arnn Elementary School and Yokota West Elementary School. He later transitioned into leadership roles, serving as assistant principal at Andersen Elementary School (Guam); Boeblingen Elementary/Middle School (Stuttgart, Germany); and Hainerberg Elementary School (Wiesbaden, Germany). He went on to serve as principal at Andersen Middle School (Guam) and Guam High School before returning to Japan as principal of Edgren Middle/High School in Misawa.

Over the past two years at IWIS, Mr. Sheedy has been proud to partner with students, staff, and families to strengthen instructional practices, support student success, and create a positive and welcoming school environment. He remains committed to DoDEA’s mission of empowering each student to thrive in a dynamic world.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Mr. Sheedy began his professional journey following service in the U.S. Army. While accompanying his wife, Denise, to Japan, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Elementary Education from the University of Maryland Asia Division and later a Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.

Mr. Sheedy is proud to be the father of two daughters, Emma and Lily, both DoDEA graduates who now live in the United States. His wife, Denise, is a Prekindergarten teacher at M.C. Perry Primary here in Iwakuni. Together, they value their longstanding connection to DoWEA, having lived and worked in Guam, Germany, and Japan.

As he begins his third year at IWIS, Mr. Sheedy looks forward to continuing the work alongside the Iwakuni community to ensure every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired.
